Battle of the Brits

In June 2020, Sunbaba teamed up with Jamie Murray, Mary Greenham, Schroders and Amazon Prime Video to help bring together the Battle of the Brits Tennis tournament, hosted at the LTA’s National Tennis Centre.

This first-time tournament brought former World No. 1 Andy Murray, current British No. 1 Dan Evans, and a host of Britain’s top competitors together, raising over £100,000 for NHS charities in the process. Live sporting events have suffered greatly during the current health crisis so it was great to help stimulate some creative activity within such a hard-hit industry.

Branding a first-time event like this meant that tight collaboration between stakeholders was particularly essential, especially when coupled with a venue change and a tight deadline. Sunbaba Director Jonathan Booth was on hand for numerous site visits, to assess the best use of the space, while helping to illuminate any potential unknowns and pitfalls as the project progressed. Event organisers Mary Greenham and Jamie Murray were great to work with, both highly pragmatic and happy to trust the recommendations of their suppliers.

Having suggested a range of Television friendly materials, we provided accurate 3D modelling to explain how we envisaged the final decor. As is the case with many events at the moment being broadcasted rather than viewed live in person, an ad hoc studio environment needed to be implemented. Once our mockups were approved and the original artwork and materials signed off, we got to work with draping specialists Cover It Up to dress the space ready for the event.

Sunbaba produced court-enclosing branded backdrops, court-side ‘toblerones’, as well as a rigid sponsor-promoting trophy lift structure. The event was a big success and it was an absolute pleasure to work with everyone involved.
